What is one thing you have learned about shopper marketing?

Shopper Marketing truly is about creating bonds between the consumers and the brands—there’s so much more than “what looks good” or “what sounds right”. In order to really understand purchasing patterns, you have to dive into the psychology of what shoppers are thinking at different points during the path to purchase. This field is a niche in the market of ad agencies, but remains such a crucial step to solidifying return customers.

What is one thing you have learned about your craft?

Throughout this summer, I had the opportunity to shadow an Account Coordinator and Account Executive to get a better understanding of how the roles work together in a fast-paced environment. Brand management has always been a career goal of mine, but having the chance to learn hands-on at Shoptology really opened my eyes. Managing the internal team’s timeline taught me more about how an agency runs than anything else this summer aside from the client facing aspect. Much like objects in your rearview mirror, deadlines are closer than they appear.

What is one thing you have learned about shopper marketing?

The biggest thing I’ve learned this summer is what a broad field shopper marketing is. One of the most interesting things to see and be a part of this summer was the collaboration between engagement, planning, insights, and design and how they work together to make a project successful.

What is one thing you have learned about your craft?

I have learned a lot about how to really engage people and not just get them to buy a product, but also give them an experience they will remember. Designing for User Interface and User Experience is something I was introduced to in college and became immediately intrigued by. I was first drawn to Shoptology because they were about building bonds with shoppers and that was what I wanted to do and learn about. This internship has lived up to that. I have learned a lot about how to design for and think about Shopper Marketing, and will walk away with a lot of new experience, knowledge, and skills.

After this internship, I will be returning to Savannah, GA for one last term of college. After my graduation, I will be thrilled to enter the industry. I had a good sense that I would want to go to work at an agency, and my experience with the culture here Shoptology has solidified that. Shoptology has been everything I knew I’d love when I chose to go into the design industry, and I hope to find that as I continue in my career.
