Friendly’s Sundae and Dessert Cups can help Mom elevate the fun and friendliness level at home.

The Challenge

Nostalgic ice-cream parlor brand Friendly’s is a favorite along the U.S. East Coast. Shoptology was tasked with helping the brand expand distribution of its existing Sundae Cups and launch its new Dessert Cups nationwide, essentially transforming Friendly’s into a much-loved and much-purchased national brand.

The Idea

Friendly’s Sundae and Dessert Cups come in all flavors of real ice cream, with layers of ingredients and toppings in every cup, so we needed to show Mom that bringing them home would help her layer on the fun and indulgence. We focused on the product differentiation and pure convenience that make everyday desserts fun and easy with “Share layers of fun with everyone!”

The Results

From there, we took a multilayered approach, strategically choosing the media, partnering with retailer programs and bringing the “Layers of Fun” shopper campaign to life with everything from Shopkick to digital media to paid influencers and more. The results? Nothing short of delicious. All retailers saw at least double-digit sales lifts for Friendly’s Sundae and Dessert Cups — even hitting triple digits at Kroger with a 141% sales lift!
