ALIBABA STOCKS UP ITS NEW VENDING MACHINE … FOR CARS
In Guangzhou, China, Ford and e-commerce giant Alibaba have teamed up to introduce the Super Test-Drive Center. The STDC is a giant vending machine that holds 100 cars. It’s designed as a test-drive experience in which shoppers can “rent” a vehicle to test-drive for three days. The machines are designed for convenience (not dealing with the hassle/pressure of a showroom) and as the ultimate try-before-you buy experience.

TOOTH SENSORS TRACK GLUCOSE, SALT & ALCOHOL INTAKE
Biomedical engineers at Tufts University have developed a tiny sensor “that can conform and bond to the irregular surface of a tooth” and will wirelessly monitor the user’s intake of salt, sugar and alcohol, among other things. The 2mm-by-2mm layered device attaches to the user’s tooth and detects compounds as they interact with the tooth. It then transmits information to a connected app. While still in an early stage of adaptation, it will be interesting to see how intake data impacts users’ diets and other habits.

PERSONAL VIDEOS FOR MARATHON RUNNERS THANKS TO ADIDAS
With the world’s biggest running event just around the corner, Adidas has partnered with the Boston Marathon to create 30,000 individualized videos for each of the participating runners. The videos will be available several hours after the runners finish the race. Using just seven cameras and data generated by race-bib RFID chips and street mat antennas, Adidas will be able to cover key areas of the 26.2-mile course to produce the inspiring videos set against the theme “Here to Create Legend.”
