AI APP MAKES HEALTHCARE MORE ACCESSIBLE IN UK

UK-based AI health services Babylon Health is creating an integrated app that will cover all 300,000 inhabitants of the city of Wolverhampton. This digital-first integrated care app will provide remote diagnoses as well as “live monitoring of patients with chronic conditions (using wearables and other monitoring apps)”; plus it will offer remote connections between patients and their doctors and other caregivers. Patients will be able to access their medical records, review their consultations, book appointments, renew prescriptions, manage post-surgery/illness rehab and “view a ‘digital twin’ of their own” — someone with their same health condition(s) and medical history. One of the main goals of this app is to build a service that fits how people are living and decrease unnecessary visits to doctors or hospitals.

DENTAL WORK IS ABOUT TO BECOME MORE PERSONALIZED

Researchers at Oregon Health and Science University have developed a dental-first “tooth-on-a-chip” technology that could help dentists create personalized solutions for patients in the future. For example, today’s cavity fillings typically last 5–7 years then need to be replaced because the materials used don’t interact as well with teeth as they should. This new technology will give dentists a better understanding of how each patient’s teeth react to certain materials and allow them to create longer-lasting, customized cavity fillings based on that learning. Beyond cavities, the technology could be used to understand how teeth “respond biologically to all sorts of injuries and treatments.”

It’s a smart health & wellness move to motivate people to go to the gym more often and help establish Apple Watch as the go-to fitness tracker for gym members.
