7-ELEVEN BREAKS INTO DELIVERY IN A BIG WAY
If you haven’t been paying attention, 7-Eleven has serious digital game, which includes its 7NOW delivery app. Recently, beer, wine and liquor deliveries were added to the app along with a test of $5 hot or ready-to-bake pizzas available for weekend delivery. With one app, 7-Eleven is now able to take on retailers offering household items, groceries and pantry needs as well as alcohol delivery services like Drizly and Minibar and compete against the entire pizza delivery industry. Now that is disruptive.
MEAL KITS ARE NOW AN OPTION AT CHICK-FIL-A
This month, Chick-fil-A is launching a meal kit option that it hopes diners will purchase with their breakfast or lunch order for a dinnertime meal. Currently, only a chicken Parmesan kit is available, which comes with fully cooked Parmesan filets, cheese, marinara and creamy lemon-garlic pasta. The idea of having customers pick up two meals at once from a QSR is not only a great basket-builder but is also potentially disruptive to grocers and retailers who count on that last-minute dinner solution sale.
COSTCO ROLLS OUT SAME-DAY PRESCRIPTION DELIVERY
In partnership with Instacart, Costco is launching national same-day prescription delivery this month. Not only that, but shoppers can add anything in the Costco warehouse to their order for delivery at the same time as their prescription. While other players also offer same-day prescription delivery, the ability to get groceries and household items delivered along with a prescription provides an added level of convenience and flexibility for shoppers in dealing with one delivery partner versus multiple.
