With the unveiling of the new Facebook Financial (F2) team, Facebook shows how serious it is about the future of shopping from its platforms. This move will help more closely align efforts like Facebook Pay, the upcoming digital wallet for cryptocurrency and existing payment platforms on properties like Messenger, WhatsApp and Instagram. With better integration of products, shoppers will likely spend more time and money shopping in the broader ecosystem.
DOORDASH IS DELIVERING A NEW OFFERING
Restaurant-meal delivery service DoorDash is making a bold move into the convenience-store business with the launch of DashMart, a new type of c-store that offers both household essentials and local restaurant favorites. The app interface will have thousands of items to choose from, but the stores themselves will be dark, serving as warehouses for drivers to pick up and deliver from. DashMart is initially launching in eight cities with plans to roll out to additional markets in the near future.
QUICKLY EMERGING WAY TO REACH CONSUMERS: SHOPPABLE VIDEO
Spin Live is a new livestream e-commerce company that allows merchants to sell their products via live shoppable videos created by leading influencers. A short setup process grants influencers access to a merchant’s product and seamlessly syncs information about the products, available inventory and fulfillment options. This new emerging sales channel has shown initial results of a 26% live conversion rate versus standard 2%–3% for traditional e-commerce.
