ALBERTSON’S TURNS FOCUS TO RC DELIVERY CARTS
A Silicon Valley startup named Tortoise developed remoted-controlled carts to help retailers deliver groceries. Albertsons is the first retailer to test these carts, which rely on a human operator to drive them. Trying to make its mark on the last-mile delivery space, Tortoise wants to be working with more of the U.S.’s top grocery chains before 2021 ends. Albertsons is testing this delivery technology to push for a more cost-effective and efficient way to get more groceries to more doorsteps.
ALDI EMBARKS ON A NEW SUSTAINABILITY MISSION
In order “to lower emissions, reduce waste and increase recycling,” Aldi has set out to get more aggressive with its sustainability efforts by 2030. This mission includes adding solar panels to more stores and warehouses, reducing packing materials by 15% and expanding a more sustainable source for coffee. With 2,000+ stores located across 37 states—and plans for an additional 100—Aldi’s commitment to sustainability will have a positive impact on the environment.
TARGET INTRODUCES FAVORITE DAY SNACK BRAND
On April 5, Target guests can swarm the new snacks and sweets brand Favorite Day. The retailer’s new private-label brand boasts over 700 products across candy, ice cream, bakery and more. Favorite Day comes a year and a half after the Good & Gather brand launched and when Target has started to phase out Archer Farms and Simply Balanced food brands. Since food & beverage has “boosted Target’s bottom line,” Favorite Day is sure to be a good move for the retailer.
