Walmart is adopting and testing a variety of strategies for providing “sustainable alternatives to single-use plastic bags,” as many localities have begun phasing them out. In Santa Clara, California, the retailer’s Fill It Forward pilot allows customers to accumulate points for scanning reusable bags during each use; then those points are converted to donations for local organizations. And in Mountain View, California, customers can “check out” reusable bags using an app, and the bags are free as long as they’re returned within a month.
Pinterest unveils livestream shopping
Pinterest TV, the social media network’s new shoppable livestream, allows users to view streams from content creators and purchase the items they’ve tagged. New episodes stream every day of the week, with each focusing on a different theme or category, as Pinterest aims to stake its share of an expected $25 billion livestream shopping market by 2023. Pinterest has also partnered with companies such as Outdoor Voices, Allbirds, and Crown Affair to provide exclusive weekly product drops live every Friday.
Advance Auto Parts launches independently owned concept
Advance Auto Parts has announced its new brand for DIYers: Carquest by Advance. The independently owned stores will be stocked with a core selection of automotive parts and products provided by Advance, including house brands like DieHard battery, which will allow Advance to gain a foothold in new markets. In addition to parts and products, Carquest by Advance stores will leverage the brand’s SpeedPerks loyalty program, as well as the Advance Auto Parts resources and tech support.
