7-Eleven delivery goes autonomous in Mountain View
7-Eleven has partnered with robotics company Nuro to launch autonomous deliveries in Mountain View, California. The new service—the first of its kind in California—makes deliveries within about 30 minutes once the customer has placed an order through the convenience store’s 7NOW app. Customers can track their orders through the 7NOW app and then meet the vehicle outside to pick up their goods. The service carries no additional charge and operates daily from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m.
Alexa powers Amazon window display
An interactive window display in New York’s SoHo neighborhood is being called “Alexa in a Pear Tree.” The holiday display features Amazon products like the Echo, Fire TV, and Kindle, and allows passersby to interact by taking control of “12 unique routines that correspond to” in-home interactions. The devices can be asked to play music, display a holiday yule log, blink Christmas lights, and more.
Target emphasizes safety and convenience
Big-box retailer Target has opened 32 new stores in 2021 and has made sure to prioritize safety and convenience in response to changes brought about by the COVID-19 pandemic. For example, many of the locations have expanded availability of drive-up spots for pickup orders. Across the board, Target has added plexiglass shields in the checkout area, installed contactless fixtures, and widened aisles for social distancing.
