Champs Sports opening massive retail concept
The 35,000-square-foot Champs Sports Homefield is set to open in Pembroke Pines, Florida, this month. The experiential retail concept will include a large inventory of sporting goods as well as an indoor multi-sport court. In addition to games playing on flat screens in the aisles, Homefield will have a smoothie bar and will host classes and workshops. Plus, the “Champs Combine” VR machine will track shoppers’ measurables and agility, posting daily leaderboards in the store.
Albertsons wafting an in-store cheesecake aroma
In New Jersey and Chicago, Albertsons-owned stores have partnered with Kraft Heinz to pump the smell of cheesecake into dairy aisles situated close to Philadelphia Cream Cheese displays. In an effort to capitalize on scent’s link to memory and the fact that—according to Kraft Heinz—500,000 cheesecakes are baked every Easter season, Acme and Jewel-Osco grocers hope to boost cream cheese sales and potentially expand this olfactory innovation to more Albertsons-owned stores.
Taking a look at Gen Z and the metaverse
New research from Razorfish and Vice Media Group highlights what Gen Z wants to see from brands in the metaverse. The study found that the majority of the generation felt freer to express themselves in games than in real life. Thirty percent are “receptive to brands selling skins and apparel to outfit digital avatars,” and a third hope that brands will establish virtual stores. Additionally, many view the metaverse as a potential revenue stream, with a third of them “desiring to build a career there.”
