Shopify introduces new POS hardware
Shopify has launched POS Go, a handheld tool used to read cards, scan bar codes, and manage inventory without needing to connect to a phone or computer. The $399 device seeks to give retailers the flexibility to view and manage inventory while processing payments at the register, on the sales floor, or curbside. With in-store retail sales expected to increase by 7.9% this holiday season, Shopify hopes its new tool will help retailers manage increased traffic while boosting sales and efficiency.
Happy Meals are now for adults too
McDonald’s has decided that Happy Meals are not just for children anymore. This week, the fast-food chain launched its new Adult Happy Meals, featuring a Big Mac or 10-piece McNuggets. McDonald’s has partnered with streetwear label Cactus Plant Flea Market to create the food boxes as well as unique McDonald’s character toys that are packaged with each meal. To further bolster its attempt to connect with millennials and Gen Z, orders placed through the McDonald’s app are entered to win unique merchandise, and meal packaging includes scannable AR Snapchat integrations.
Google helps brands with search this holiday season
In the lead-up to the holiday season, Google has introduced nine new tools to help brands drive online holiday shopping sales. As Amazon continues to increase its share of the shopping search market, Google hopes to drive growth via image and lifestyle search. The new tools include a 3D visual feature that allows shoppers to view 3D images of shoes before purchasing, a buying guide that helps consumers decide about more expensive purchases, and a “shop the look” tool that assists users with creating outfits.
